Simpson has been in business in Australia for over 150 years. The company was started by Alfred Simpson, who arrived in South Australia in 1849. Having served his apprenticeship in England, he established himself as a tinsmith in 1853. Over the years, Simpson manufactured agricultural products, safes, labour-saving factory machinery, munitions and mines. At the time of his death in 1891, A. Simpson & Son was the largest metal manufacturing plant in Australia.
By the 1940’s the company had begun manufacturing whitegoods. Pope Industries merged with Simpson's in 1963 to form Simpson Pope Holdings. In 1979, the name was changed to Simpson Holdings Limited. A merge with Electrolux took place in 1999.
